Oceanic Peace
When you begin to heal, you realize how vital environments are to your mental and emotional well-being.
Towards the end of May, I had an incredibly difficult time with my mental health. Environments are everything to me, and Northern Virginia was taking a negative toll on my mind. I was suffering emotional fits of rage, disparity, and paranoia. It wasn’t until I left did I realize what was happening. I was moving towards a state of PTSD episodes, and calling my sister to pick me up was the best decision I could make for myself.
I still remember the feeling of relief when my sister came to pick me up from my aunt’s home. I was crying inside as she arrived at the house, having driven 3 hours from Virginia Beach.
We often neglect listening to our bodies when an environment we’re in is not nourishing our spirit. For me, I need oceanic peace to reset and recharge.
I am so grateful to have spent my quarantine summer with my sister and her husband in their charming beach town. My mind, body, and soul quickly returned to homeostasis. I spent every day watching sunsets on the beach, resting my mind, and savoring the slow pace of life.
If you’re feeling anxious, stuck, or stressed, pay attention to where you are, and then ask yourself what you can do to feel better.
Remember, you never have to stay where you are.
Sincerely,
Mary
