3 Ways To Overcome Writer's Block
Often, I have writers come to me not knowing where to begin writing.
They have an urge to write their stories but are so daunted by the process, they are paralyzed with fear and never begin writing their stories.
Here are 3 ways to overcome writer’s block.
1. Zoom into a moment
When we think about our entire life story, we get overwhelmed with where to begin. When you think about the most pivotal moments of your life, you may remember all of the details down from what you are wearing. Life is composed of moments. You move through the world from one moment to the next. So focus on a moment and start from there.
2. Permission to Be Messy
Write with imperfections and perfect it later. No writer I know has written a piece without going back and revising it numerous times. You’re allowed to be your messy, imperfect self when you begin writing. Leave your perfectionism at the door because this can block our creative flow.
3. Give Yourself Writing Prompts
Pretend a friend is asking you questions to learn about your story and answer them honestly. A few questions I guide writers through their story are:
Describe a time you felt invisible?
What did that feel like and make you believe about yourself?
How did that experience bring you closer to who you are today?
Writing our stories can be an overwhelming process, and you don’t have to go through this process alone.
I am here to help you master your writing process to carry it with you for the rest of your life and transform into someone who shows up to the world authentically and fearlessly.
Writing is a process of flow, ease, and clarity.
It encompasses your mind, body, and spirit.
Sincerely,
Mary
