Burnout Is Not A Badge Of Honor

I am taking my first real break for 2 weeks to recover from surgery tomorrow.

Calendars are blocked off. Out-of-office messages are turned on. And I will be taking time off social media and my podcast as well.

No TikToks.

No emails.

No podcast editing.

No Instagram.

Nothing but my bed and me.

I need to give my body the rest it’s been begging for. I’ve been hustling non-stop for the past 2 years and building my business since I left my career as a NYC fashion designer in 2020.

I am still detoxing myself from my 11-year fashion career that dictated my identity and self-worth and used burnout as a badge of honor.

Burnout is not a badge of honor, rest is.

Balance is.

Feeling good in what you do in your body is.

I’ve been running on adrenaline unconsciously for too long, and my body has taken the biggest hit from continuing to override my nervous system so that I can feel my way into existence by the act of doing.

Here’s the thing…there’s no possible way any human can ever work their way into existence because we already deserve to exist.

We are human beings, not human doings.

We deserve to breathe deeply into our lives feeling enough as we are…yet the world has made us feel otherwise.

And I’ve had enough…literally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually moving in the fast-paced rhythm of the world…it’s too much.

I am cutting the cord of the cyclical flow of producing non-stop, and I’m taking a true break.

I’m finally ready to honor what my body needs and be at peace with the rest I’m giving it.

So I can once again recalibrate in a way where I can make 100% impact on my clients, community, and future clients.

If you are challenged to find rest within your life, I’d like to remind you that you’re allowed to give your body a break.

You’re allowed to shut off the world and sit in stillness for as long as you’d like.

You’re allowed to do what makes you feel good and your body safe, even if it may feel like letting yourself down, what you’re doing is meeting your expectations with your body’s truths.

Sometimes, giving our body what it needs is the bravest thing to do…especially if it's rest.

While I am resting, recharging, and social media detoxing, here are a few great episodes of Mental Breakthrough to listen to while I am OOO.

If you’re going through a breakup, listen to:
S2E26: Post-Breakup Growth With Mental Health Advocate Emily Elizabeth

If you’re looking for ways to love yourself, listen to:
S2E33: Love Is Medicine With Self-Love & Embodiment Coach Amanda Castilone

If you’re writing your memoir, listen to:
S2E35: Healing Through Trauma Writing, A Memoir Update With Maryann Samreth

I hope you all know you’re allowed to put yourself first.

Take care and I will talk to you all soon!

Sincerely,

Mary
