A year ago, a woman slid into my fb dms with these 3 healing words.

“I believe you.”

This woman knew my abusive ex very well, a man who silenced me for over a year after I confided in him that his best friend sexually assaulted me.

She also knew his best friend very well.

This woman was my ex’s ex-girlfriend before me 🤯

She had discovered my trauma essays online, where I was sharing the stories of my catastrophic breakup with our mutual ex…a storyline that would later become season 1 of Mental Breakthrough Podcast.

For over a year post-breakup, I had shared my trauma stories online on Medium, Thought Catalog, and my personal social media platform, hoping my ex’s friends or family would read my work and hold my abusers accountable.

It never happened, and I can honestly say what hurt more than the horrific acts of my perpetrators were the people who chose to be silent and complicit about it.

Neutrality, silence, and complicity sides with the oppressors, and I never thought I would get justice until Amy was brave enough to reach out to me and show me her support.

For the season finale of Mental Breakthrough, I share this story about women empowering, uplifting, and believing women.

I never received closure or an apology from my ex but what I got was something better…justice and redemption.
