What You Should Let Go Of In 2021

What should you let go of in 2021?

Expectations.

Expectations of our life’s path, future, and how we reach our goals.

I’m going to be honest here, the end of the year has always brought feelings of guilt and not-enoughness for me.

I tend to spiral into what I could have done better, thus leading into a pool of misery, depression, and comparison.

Here’s the truth.

We can never meet the expectations we put on ourselves because this leads to a perpetual state of chasing a feeling of fulfillment.

The only way we can ever feel fulfilled is to stand in the stillness of where we are right now in the present moment.

 In stillness, I receive.

This was a card I pulled over 100 times the past year from Gabby Bernstein’s affirmation deck.

I f*cking hated it because I was so impatient to meet the expectations I had placed on myself within my business, social media platforms, and my podcast.

But now I finally understand what this card means.

In stillness, we receive the feelings of fulfillment, self-affirmation of the work we’ve done on ourselves, and the safeness we created within to receive the success we deserve.

In stillness, we can be exactly who we are, where we are, and understand we are doing the best we can at every moment.

Because what is meant for us will always find a way in the process of receiving.

Receiving is the state of being rather than doing.

“We are all figuring out what works best for us in this world that wasn’t made for us.”

-Emily Elizabeth, host of The Wondering Mind Podcast, on navigating mental health on the latest episode of Mental Breakthrough Podcast

Listen To Episode 26: Post-Breakup Growth With Mental Health Advocate Emily Elizabeth

Emily and I have an open and honest conversation about navigating our mental health in a world that stigmatizes it.

I can’t imagine my life being here a year ago, openly talking about mental health, trauma, and the healing journey with others.

This path was created by moving through my truths, not through my expectations.

I hope to carry this mindset into 2022, as challenging as it can be to surrender to life’s uncertainty.

When we can live freely within our truths we will bring more of what is meant for us.

Sincerely,

Mary
